The ‘Wu Chen’ has been crafted according to the ‘half-hand’ (半手工) tradition, where the body of the pot is shaped in a gypsum case, while the handle, spout, lid and holes are shaped and fixed entirely by hand.
The wood firing process has created vibrant patterns on the surface, giving a prismatic effect when catching the light, shining a subtle gold particularly in natural light.
Engravings on the teapot were carefully done by the artist Zhonglin 仲林:
用之大吉 (“Good fortune with use”)
爲有馀酲在,還牽睡思繁。汲泉敲石火,先試小龍團。(a quote from an old Ming dynasty poem about tea)
