This handmade teacup is made by Yue Chao from Jingdezhen, China. It is a stunning and rarely-seen example of ‘chai-shao’ fired pottery. There is no glaze on the interior or exterior, but instead features melted wood ash from the wood firing process. The earthy tone and matte finish is a result of direct exposure to fire for up up to 3-5 days.

Wood firing pottery is finished with melted wood ash on its surface, meaning no artificial glazes are needed in the process. It also results in a beautiful pattern and colour combination on the surface, giving a unique texture and finish to each individual piece that comes out of the kiln.

This teacup includes a protective pouch, as seen in the final photo, to safeguard your teaware during transport. Designed for both convenience and reuse, it ensures your teaware remain secure wherever you go. Please note that the pouch colour will be selected at random.
